The four products I’m using now that summer is here

I’m about to have a glow up.

It’s finally summer and I’m changing up my skincare routine to meet the needs of my oily-combination skin. It feel like spring just got here but now that it’s significantly warmer in the city, my skin needs less moisture and more oil control. Summer in Toronto is never just warm. It’s always humid too. My skin needs a routine that is going to be hydrating without adding extra layers of oil or product. Also, I’m Check out the new products I’m obsessing over this summer.

My no makeup makeup look

This summer I low key challenged myself to wear less makeup and focus more on the look and health of my skin. So far, I haven’t really been wearing makeup at all. I’m working from home right now and I haven’t been tempted to wear makeup as much. But even on the days when I go out, I pretty much just wear primer, foundation, blush, and a little bit of highlighter. My goal at the end of the summer is to have soft, glory summertime skin.

Milk Hydro Grip Primer, sephora.ca.

It’s prime time

There’s no question about how much time I spend prepping my skin in comparison to actually applying makeup. I have a full morning skincare routine and then if I decide to wear makeup, a few products I use to prep my skin. The Hydro Grip Primer by Milk is one of them. I was dying to try it when I found out Milk was dropping a primer. It’s as hydrating, light, and smoothing as I thought it would be. It absorbs on contact and dries down quickly. I just love how soft and healthy my skin looks after applying it.

I would love to try this primer under a full face of makeup to see if it helps prolong the wear of my makeup. But, since I’m only wearing it under a bit of foundation to even out my skin tone, I can say my skin looks smooth and healthy.

Glow Recipe Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser, sephora.ca.

Jelly cleanse

I am absolutely obsessed with jelly cleansers. I have a little collection going now of my favourites which include Drunk Elephant and Glossier. Glow Recipe recently introduced a jelly cleanser to their collection and I decided to try it out. I love the scent. It’s light and fruity without being overwhelming. I also love how the cleanser feels on my skin. It lathers really well and almost gets this frothy kind of texture on wet skin. I didn’t find it overly drying which is a big deal for me and my skin felt great after. This will be one of my go-tos during the hot, humid summer in the city.

Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil, sephora.ca.

Face off

I don’t need to say much about this face oil because I’ve been using it for well over a year now. Also, it’s made by one of my favourite brands ever, Biossance. I never used a face oil before I started using this one but I’ve been using this product basically twice a day now and I’m beyond obsessed. It’s derived from squalane, an ingredient I’ve come to love, but also has vitamin c and rose oil in it. Basically, it helps hydrate the skin but also makes your skin look super glowy. What can I say? I’m a fan!

Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Gylcolic Essence, sephora.ca.

In essence

I’ve always used toners after washing my face haven’t really deviated from that habit. I’ve used a couple of essence products in recent memory but toner and micellar water are my absolute go-tos. That is until I bought the Vinoperfect Brightening Gycolic Essence from Caudalie. I bought it after getting a facial at Caudalie last month. And, in the last few weeks, instead of reaching for my toner, I’ve been using this essence. So far I’m liking it. I think my skin just feels more hydrated and looks more even. Also, I’ve saved a month’s worth of cotton pads by using the essence instead of using toner, which is great!

  1. I love this Biossance product. When I use it I always take a moment to breath the gentle rose fragrance. It’s a little touch that takes me from skin care to self care.
