My morning beauty routine is simple

See what’s on my top shelf.

I’d like to think that after years of being a beauty lover, I would have perfected my morning routine by now. The truth is I have several versions of my morning beauty routine. They range from the bare minimum to full face of makeup. It really just depends on the day and how I’m feeling.

On an average day I don’t tend to wear a lot of makeup, especially during the summer months. I usually stick to a basic skincare routine. Then, I’ll add a bit of powder, mascara, highlighter and brow gel to add polish. It’s my actual no makeup makeup look. And, because I’m constantly trying new products, my “routine” is kind of non-existent. But there are a few products that I keep coming back to after months and months of trying. Those products make up my beauty routine.

Mist is a must

I don’t care if it’s winter, spring, summer or fall, I always use mist in the morning. Not only do I find it incredibly refreshing, I feel like it actually wakes up my skin. Right now I am loving a few mineral water-based products. I’ve been using Vichy, Avène and Evian mostly. But, I’m also obsessed with traditional mist products like Glossier, Biossance and L’Occitane. And, if I’m looking for some extra hydration, I will use an essence product on top.

Moisturize, hydrate and protect

I am always, always, always looking for the perfect moisturizer. And, I’ve found approximately two products that I am absolutely in love with. Because, I have oily combination skin, I’m constantly searching for product that will moisturize and hydrate my skin without feeling heavy or making my skin more oily. I love this moisturizer from Embryolisse because it feels amazing on my skin and doesn’t clog my pores. I can use it underneath makeup without feeling like I’m wearing layers of product on my skin.

I like Caryl Baker’s Day Light Brightening Cream because it has SPF in it. I know my skin is protected from the sun when I use this moisturizer in the morning. Because I have darker skin, I am constantly hunting for a good sunscreen product. I don’t want to have a weird tinge on my skin that looks kind of white or grey or purple.

The Brightening Cream is one of the first sunscreen-based products that I’ve tried and liked. It didn’t give me that kind of tent. It’s great because on the days that I decide not to wear make up at all, I don’t have to worry about having a weird colouration to my skin. I want a sunscreen that I can wear comfortably, that has enough SPF and looks good on my skin as well.

It’s a glossier kind a day

I don’t think there is a beauty brand I use as much as classy. This brand has been in my life since 2017. I continue to hoard the products like they’re about to go out of style. From the skin care to make up, I’ve tried a large portion of their products. When it comes to make up, I tend to gravitate toward glossier because I know it’s light, easy and minimalist.

I’ve written about all of these products separately in previous articles. I love the concealer because it is hydrating and rich. Glossier’s Wowder is perfect because it’s so light but it provides enough coverage to hide any imperfections on my skin. I really like boy brow because I get these fluffy beautiful model browse with out much effort. The mascara is the perfect every day product to use. I love how it separates and like that’s my lashes. Finally, the highlighter is the most natural looking highlighting product I’ve come across. Haloscope adds the perfect amount of dewy sparkle to my skin.

It takes me maybe 15 minutes to get my skincare and make up done if I’m in a hurry. But, if I’m feeling more indulgent, I’ll draw out the process. Sometimes I’ll do a lip mask or an eye mask or maybe use my jade roller. I think if there’s anything I can say to sum up my beauty routine it’s that I truly believe in the power of skin care but also love to play with make up every now and then.
