The six things on my 2021 Christmas wish list

I’m making a list and checking it twice.

It’s hard to believe 2021 is almost finished. I was really enjoying my sad girl autumn with my thick knit sweaters, scented candles, and Adele’s new album on replay, but apparently November is almost over and everyone is talking about the holidays. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday coming up this weekend, I’m planning to finish my Christmas shopping before December — emphasis on the world planning. And while I’m crossing my friends and family off my list, I’m also adding one or two things to my own wish list. Here are a few things I’m coveting this year.

A slip dress in every colour

If you hadn’t noticed, I love dresses. Skirts are a close second, but pants are a last resort. I usually go for a flowy silhouette, but I’ve recently discovered the magic of a good slip dress. It’s a little more fitted than a billowy maxi dress, but it’s also super versatile. I can wear it year round (plus or minus a few layers), but I recently bought one in black from Reitmans and now I need more. Knix did another collaboration with The Birds Papaya featuring a silky slip dress and I’m totally here for it. It comes in a bunch of colours, but the deep green shade has my heart.

All the candles

Candles were on my list last year, but I firmly believe that you can never have too many. A scented candle is one of the products I love using when I want a little “me time” and I like having options. I also like supporting local businesses and there are literally dozens of companies within Toronto alone that have a great selection of candles. One brand that’s on my list is Catherine & Co. I already have a couple, but she recently launched a Toronto collection and I want them all.

A little black bag

Now that I’m straight outta quarantine and leaving my house more regularly, I realized I actually need to take a purse that can hold all my accoutrements instead of clutching my wallet, phone, lip balm, and hand sanitizer in one hand. And to be honest, I’m a little bored with the bags that I have. I’ve been shopping around for a new bag that’s so classic, I’ll still want to wear it years from now. I ended up on the Charles & Keith website and, let me tell you, my cart is full.

Serum by Caudalie

If I’m being honest, I’d love anything from Caudalie. It’s one of those brands where anything I try becomes an instant favourite. I’ve always been a fan of their face masks (I have yet to try the Tik Tok famous Instant Detox Mask), but I’ve been looking at their Vinoperfect line a lot lately. The Radiance Serum is one I’m most excited to try.

A jewellery organizer

I will confess that my collection of baubles has gotten a little out of control in the last year or so. Instead of buying clothes, I bought a lot of jewellery and now I’m running out of space in my little ring dishes to store them. I love the idea of a stackable jewellery box and I’ve been eyeing these ones at Indigo for a while now. You can basically build you own jewellery box. I have so many chains, I may need a couple of necklace drawers to keep them sorted.

A nostalgic fragrance

I never thought about what my “signature” scent is, but I suppose it’s Nina by Nina Ricci. I’ve been wearing it since high school, along with a few other classic fragrances, but Nina is a perfume I still come back to time and time again. It has something to do with the adorable packaging, but it’s also such a nice scent. It’s the perfect combination of fruity and floral that makes it light, fresh, and just a little sweet. Every few years they come out with a new bottle and I never think twice about purchasing.
