AUTUMN IN BURGUNDY

I’ve been waiting for this moment all year.

One of my favourite things about fall, apart from the rapidly cooling temperatures and endless flow of hot beverages, is the reappearance of burgundy-hued items. From clothing to makeup and all the accessories in between, burgundy is undoubtedly an autumn staple. I’m not super picky about the exact shade of burgundy but anything in that range of rich, deep red is a go-to for me during the fall and even winter months. Literally.

I was in Forever21 and I saw this long-sleeved top and made a beeline for it. I didn’t even mind that it was a turtleneck, which until recently I’ve avoided—‘cause reasons. Though the actual shirt was thin, and I wasn’t completely sold on the ribbed texture, I ended up buying. I’m glad I did. It worked perfectly with my black midi skirt and I’ll probably be living in that outfit for the rest of 2017.

SPORTY CHIC

Girly meets sporty.

Midi skirts are having a bit of a moment for me right now and I absolutely fell in love with this one from ASOS. The skirt’s perforated/mesh material with the varsity-looking striped waistband are sports-inspired. But the over-the-knee length and skirt’s fullness, especially when it catches the wind, make it super feminine. All to say, this skirt is the epitome of sporty-chic. I paired it with a beloved crop top by Jessica Simpson of al people. I found it at Winners and I loved it so much I went back and found it in black—because when you really love something, you get multiples.

Now, I technically should’ve worn a thicker coat because it’s like almost winter or something in Toronto. I can’t really tell because the weather is still above zero degrees (not complaining BTW) and I’ve been getting away with very fall-appropriate style choices. This is one of them. I chose my summer bomber from Reitmans. Truthfully, it wasn’t actually cold it was just hella windy (as seen in my Marilyn Monroe-esque photoshoot)

VELOUR + TULLE

A perfect pairing.

If we’ve been reliving the 90s for the past few years then I think we’re quickly transitioning into the early 2000s and all its fashion dos and don’ts. Velour tracksuits and tearaway pants were such a trend in the early 00s and they’re definitely back for a do-over. I’m okay with it though because it means I get to relive my pre-teen years but minus all the awkwardness.

I’m also still into wearing my skirts despite the fact that it’s basically winter. My commitment to looking cute knows no bounds. But, in my defence, I lived in Ottawa for five years so Toronto winters don’t really phase me anymore. I’m still obsessed with my pink tulle skirt from H&M and even more so now that I know it matches my Puma crop top from ASOS. The velour bomber was the perfect layer. It just adds a bit of softness that my black bombers couldn’t achieve. It was a random find from boohoo but I actually love it.

CASUAL DENIM

A wardrobe staple.

A denim jacket is an absolute necessity when it comes to transitioning between summer and fall weather. It’s ridiculously comfortable and goes with literally anything in your closet.

I found this treasure at Addition Elle and immediately fell in love. Being a tall girl, I loved the longer, oversized look of this jacket. It was perfect for all of my mini-ish dresses and skirts that I love to wear when it’s still warm outside but need an extra layer over in the evenings when it cools down. Enter the t-shirt dress. I’ve been living in them all summer and I will probably continue to wear them into the early winter. I actually love this on from ASOS because it’s a thicker cotton material, making it perfect for the cooler fall weather. Add a pair of my favourite sunglasses and sporty-looking running shoes and I’m good to go!
