5 things I’m shopping for this spring

There are a few things I’m dying to add to my closet this spring.

I hesitate to write this, but I believe it’s finally spring in Toronto. It doesn’t really feel like it yet, but I’m slowly packing away my puffer coats and pulling out my spring dresses and open-toe sandals. I know, I know — who do I think I am?

I am simply a fashion girlie who is sick of wearing winter layers and praying to the weather gods for warmer temperatures. And in anticipation of actual spring weather, I’m on the hunt for a few new addition to my wardrobe. Here are a few fashion items I’m shopping for right now!

A quilted jacket

If I had to pick the perfect spring jacket, I would normally go with a denim jacket. But lately I’ve been obsessed with quilted jackets and they’re popping up everywhere. I got one from the Joe Fresh x Jillian collaboration last fall and I wore until it was too cold to do so. This spring I’m looking for something similar but with a different pattern or print. Bonus points if it has an exaggerated collar and bows!

OTT sneakers

Sneakers have been trending for a while now and I think I finally understand the hype. I have a few pairs of running shoes in my shoe closet, but they’re for purely practical reasons. With the rise of Sambas, Golas, and other colourful fashion sneakers along with shoe charms and fun laces, I am now actively hunting for a few pairs of my own. I recently purchased a pair of pink Pumas and added a bunch of fun charms I got from Aldo, Claire’s and Anthropologie. Now, if I can find a more neutral pair, I think I’ll be set for season.

A Canadian tuxedo

It’s a wardrobe staple, if you ask me. There’s just something so effortless and classic about a matching denim set and it’s one of my favourite things to wear during the spring and fall seasons. Finding the perfect pair of jeans can be tricky for any body, especially when you’re tall and plus size. Tricky, but not impossible. I’ve found some great pieces at Eloquii, Reitmans, and most recently Silver Jeans — a Canadian brand I used to wear in my youth when I was shopping at a specialty store called Tall Girl (now called Long Tall Sally). I should do an entire post on them, because their denim is so good!

Anything butter yellow

I know Pantone said Mocha Mousse is the colour of the year, but according to the fashion world, Butter Yellow is the colour of the season. And I’m 100% on board with this colour. Soft, sweet, and down right joyful, butter yellow is a colour I’m more than happy to add into my closet. I already have a couple pieces that I’ve accumulated over the years (re: a faux leather playsuit, a pleated skirt and linen dress), but I’m ready and willing to add a few more.

Fruit print fashion

One thing about me: I’ll buy almost anything with a fruit print! It’s been an obsession since childhood and I think Strawberry Shortcake has something to do with it. But it’s not just me — fruit-themed fashion has been trending for a bit a la tomato girl summer, la dolce vita’s lemon print or Pinterest’s cherry coded aesthetic. I’m hoping strawberries get their moment this year, because I would love to add some berry-printed items to my collection.
