the six things on my 2020 Christmas wish list

I’m making a list and checking it twice.

I can’t believe 2020 is finally coming to an end. It’s been nothing short of a dumpster fire, and I’m looking forward to starting a new (and hopefully better) year in a month. Still, there are a few small wins for me this year that I can’t take for granted. My health, my job, and being able to live at home with my family are just a few things I’m grateful for. So the idea of making a Christmas list seems a little unnecessary, especially after the purchases I made during Black Friday and Cyber Monday—it was a lot, y’all. Still, I’ve gotten a few messages and phone calls from my family asking me what I wanted for Christmas. So here it is.

Candles, candles, and more candles!

I think one of my favourite purchases this year has been candles. My collection isn’t just the three or four three-wick jars I picked up from my quarterly trip to Bath and Body Works. I’ve discovered a few new ones and a couple are even Canadian made (we love to see it). So it only made sense to add candles to my list because I’m not sure how long my current ones will last. I’m really into wood wick candles right now. I love the crackling sound they make when you burn them. Candles may seem like a boring gift to give someone, but now that I’m home all the time, small and practical gifts are the ones I really want this year.

A mini diffuser

I have a humidifier, but I love the idea of having a diffuser in my room. I can leave on my bedside table to add moisture to my dry attic bedroom, and I can even add a couple drops of essential oils to treat myself to a mini aromatherapy session. This one from Vitruvi is small enough to fit on my desk or side table and it’ll look like a fancy piece of home décor when I’m not using it.

Dried flowers

The one thing I miss during the winter months is having fresh flowers in my room. It’s always cold in my room, which I normally like, but it means plants and flowers don’t last as long. The last time I was in the store (during the brief stage two period), I bought a small bunch of pink bunny tail and it’s probably the cutest bouquet I’ve ever had. They’re still in mint condition and don’t require any water. Having dried flowers that will look amazing, but don’t require any maintenance is the perfect way to still add some greenery to my room. I was shopping around on my favourite flower shop’s website May Flowers and spotted a few bouquets and a beautiful wreath that I think would look so good in my room.

A weighted blanket

My bed has always been my favourite place in my entire house and I’ve already invested in quite a few sleep products to make quarantine life a bit better. I replaced my mattress in the spring and then added a mattress topper a few months later. And I even purchased a couple new sets of bedsheets, because I needed an upgrade. The only thing I haven’t replaced is my beloved duvet. I really want a weighted blanket, especially now that it’s winter. We have a fluffy weighted blanket in the living room and it’s so cozy, I just want to use it all the time. I really like this one from Indigo because it has a soft velour texture and a nice quilted pattern that’ll complement my bedding really well.

The perfect water bottle doesn’t ex—

I will admit that I have a ridiculous collection of water bottles. But, I swear I use all of them now that I’m home all the time. I have a couple of bkr water bottles already, but I recently learned they have bottles that come with a lip balm compartment on the lid. It’s such a clever addition that I think would make a difference in my life. The only items I carry around with me is my phone, a water bottle, and a tube of lip gloss. So it just makes sense to have a little compartment at the top of my water bottle to stash a little balm. I’m honestly surprised I didn’t know about these sooner.

Anything Glossier

I can’t believe I’m asking for more after doing a huge Glossier haul on Cyber Monday. But leave it to Glossier to drop a collection of cute-looking gift sets a few days after one of their only sales during the year. Just take my money already. I’m torn between wanting the necklace and lip gloss set and the balm dot calm gift set, so I’m putting both on my list. They’re both limited edition and include lip products, which are my kryptonite.
