The way I love a good gourmand.
While I’ll always have a special place in my heart for a fruity-floral scent, there is an equally important spot for the perfect gourmand fragrance — on my vanity. In my latest rotation of fragrances, I’ve noticed they all have one thing in common: sugar, maybe some spice, and notes that smells very, very nice.
The category is edible
From classic notes of vanilla and honey to dessert-inspired ingredients like milk, marshmallow, and caramel, there’s been a growing demand for sweet treat fragrances. But there’s a difference between the sugar-sweet scents in the body mists and perfumes of the early aughts. The new era of gourmand has depth, quite literally adding base notes of tonka, sandalwood, and amber to add warmth and spice to balance our the sweetness. We’ve all grown up and our tastes in sweet-smelling perfumes has too.
In 2025, gourmands finally got their chance to shine and there’s been a growing demand ever since. The beauty world has responded quickly, with many brands like Rare Beauty, Josie Maran, and Summer Fridays entering into the fragrance space with their own take on a good, gourmand scent. I’ve been using quite a few sugar-sweet fragrances lately and, based on all the compliments I’ve gotten from total strangers, I thought I’d make a little list of the ones I’m obsessed with.
