I want to glow like the lights on my Christmas tree all winter long.
There is nothing as cold and unforgiving as a Canadian winter. Every December, I have to change my skincare routine and incorporate products that will hydrate and protect my skin from the very dry and very cold weather. It’s been a lot easier this year because I already have a few go-tos, but I’ve also discovered three more and they’re great.
Here’s what I’m using on my skin this winter.
Dry brush
The dry brush is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a brush that you use on your face to exfoliate your skin. I got this one from Province Apothecary a while ago, and I’ll admit I wasn’t using it every morning like I’m supposed to. I’ve really simplified my skincare routine over the last few months, and my dry brush was one of the many products I decided to stop using. Fast forward to the first few weeks of winter weather and suddenly I was searching for the brush on my beauty counter.
My skin definitely needed some extra exfoliation and the dry brush is one the best ways to do it. The brush comes with a special instructions on how to use it, but there’s also a video by Province Apothecary that’s really helpful. The bristles are so soft and it’s a nice alternative to physical or chemical exfoliants, especially if you have sensitive skin. My skin is oily/combination, but I usually dry brush in the morning and then use my face scrub or glycolic acid products in the evening. There’s something so soothing about dry brushing and my skin always feels so smooth afterward.
Blush stick
This is the first product by Nudestix that I’ve tried and I have to say that I’m a fan. The Nudies Bloom stick is a makeup crayon that I can use anywhere on my face to add some much needed colour to my skin. It has a creamy texture and blends so well that I find myself using my fingers instead of brush.
I love the shade Poppy Girl because it was a bit deeper than the others. I use it mostly as a blush product, but I’ve also used it as an eyeshadow and lip stain on the days when I don’t want to wear a full face of makeup (which has been almost every day for the last couple of months). It’s also great to use when I’m running short on time in the morning because I can add a little pop of colour to my face in seconds.
Lip treatment
This is probably one of my favourite products of the year. It’s a gloss-to-balm lip treatment by Patchology, and I’m actually obsessed. I finished mine in less than two months and then had to buy more because I actually missed using it every night. It has an almost minty flavour to it, which I loved. It also tingles a little when you first apply it, but quickly calms down. It’s packed with hyaluronic acid, aloe, and honey to both soothe, hydrate, and protect your lips. I use it every night before I go to bed and I wake up with super soft lips the next morning. It’s honestly so good, I’ve haven’t used a lip scrub in months.
