Celebrate Earth Day with these green beauty products

These products make me feel like a natural woman!

As much as I love makeup and skincare, I am almost painfully aware of how much I consume on a regular basis. I might actually write a post about my monthly empties because I finish a couple jars and bottles of skincare like it’s my job. But, I will say I’ve gotten into the habit of bringing my empties to my local L’Occitane store because they recycle the old skincare packaging. I’m so happy beauty brands are working harder to not only produce greener packaging alternatives but also recycling the used packaging.

I love green beauty for several reasons and one of them is that the brands that make green products are conscious of their impact on the environment. Last year, I wrote an article for Elle Canada about all the green beauty brands that were giving back to the environment on Earth Day. This year, I want to list a few of my favourite green beauty products and why I’m obsessed with them.

Literally everything at Biossance

It’s really hard for me to pick one product from this brand because I’m obsessed with so many of them. And, it’s not like I haven’t mentioned it a few times. Biossance is clean beauty brand that sources its hero ingredient squalane from sugar cane, which is highly sustainable. They recently released a small line of products with tea tree in them and I didn’t think twice about placing an order on Sephora. Tea tree is like the ultimate detoxifying ingredient for my skin and the Biossance Detox Mask felt like amazing. I’m also a huge fan of their oils! The Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil is fantastic for hydrating the skin and giving it a dewy glow. I also love using the 100% Squalane Oil because you can put it pretty much anywhere. I used it on my hair and hands during the winter for some extra hydration.

Oh, so lush

Lush is a pretty obvious pick. From their products to their packaging to their charity work and commitment to being socially responsible, Lush is one of the beauty companies leading the industry to a brighter and greener future. I’m a huge fan of their bath bombs (like everyone else) and regularly dip into the store to restock on my favourites. Butterball and Avobath are two of my go-tos because they’re so simple. Butterball is packed with coco butter and I love avocado so much, why not bathe in it?

Raw RMS Beauty

I like to think that Rose-Marie Swift is one of the pioneers of green beauty. She’s been in the industry as a makeup artist for decades and her company is still recognized as one of the best natural makeup brands in the business. Slowly yet surely, I’ve been falling in love with every product I try from her collection. It started off with the Living Luminizer and has grown to include pretty much every product in the RMS Beauty collection. The Raw Coconut Cream is another favourite because it’s the ultimate multi-tasker. I can use it pretty much anywhere on my body. I’ve even used it as makeup remover on my face.

Detox with Herbivore Botancials

I’ve been using Herbivore Botancials for a couple years now and I’ll probably continue until I die. The magical Jade Facial Roller is a daily necessity, especially at the end of a long day when all I want to do is relax and destress. But, I’m also a huge fan of the soap bars from this brand. The philosophy behind their non-toxic and organic beauty products is that our skin, whether we like it or not, will absorb everything it encounters. And, because certain environmental aggressors like sunlight and pollution are inescapable, it’s nice to know there are beauty products that can help detoxify the skin. The Bamboo Charcoal Cleansing Bar is one of my favourite products to use, especially in the summer.

Cake, Cake, Cake, Cake.

I’ve been using Cake Beauty for almost a decade now and I still talk about their products like I just discovered them. They’re vegan, cruelty free and smell incredible! I will use pretty much anything from this brand but my favourite is the Body Milk Scrub. I feel like a new person after I’ve used a little bit of this scrub on my skin. And, I’m not the only one who thinks so. If my empty jar of body scrub is any detection, everyone in my house is as obsessed as I am. Thank God I purchase this stuff in twos. It’s that good.

Brush your way to good skin

I’ve tried a few of the products from Province Apothecary and my favourites are the Dry Brush and the Invigorating + Balancing Toner. The entire collection is inspired by aromatherapy and natural beauty, which makes sense because the founder, Julie, is a certified holistic esthetician and aromatherapist.

I use my jade roller every night but, every morning I start my day off with by brushing my face with the Province Apothecary Facial Dry Brush. Now, it might look intimidating but it’s actually so soft and feels amazing on the skin. And, once you’ve done it for a couple weeks, you can’t really go a day without using.

Shea it again

The Body Shop was my first beauty obsession and I’ve been using their products since high school. And, if I think about it, The Body Shop is one of the reasons I love green beauty so much. I loved using products that were gentle on my skin and on the environment. Oh, and they also happened to smell amazing. When I finally started having a skincare routine, The Body Shop was my go-to and still is—can we say Tea Tree Oil.

The Shea line is another favourite and their newest product is the best yet. The 100% natural raw shea butter is perfect for a DIYer like me. I can use it in much the same way I would with coconut oil. I’ve also mixed in a bit of sugar to make a scrub and it’s actually amazing. My lips and hands felt so soft after a short scrub and I’m excited to try it out as a full body scrub.

The Tata Touch

Tata Harper is one of the first luxury green beauty brands that I discovered as a beauty blogger. I fell in love with the glass jars and green-meets-gold packaging. And, once I listened to Tata’s interview on the Breaking Beauty podcast, I fell in love with the story behind the brand and added all her products on my beauty wish list. The Resurfacing Mask is one of the more popular products and I can see why. It smells incredible, feels so good as you apply it and, left my skin with an instant glow. I’ll be trying out a few more products before the year is out.

Happy Earth Day!

I loved sharing just a few of my favourite green beauty products but I’m always on the hunt for more. Are you a fan of green beauty? What are you favourite products? Tell me in the comments!
