My summer in outfits

2021 is the summer of dresses.

As we head into the last stretch of summer in Toronto, the only thing I can think about is that fall will get here before I wear all the dresses I have in my closet. I usually add one or two new summer dresses to my collection each year but I really leaned into the tradition this year. I’m blaming part of this on the fact that last summer we were in total lockdown. I didn’t have anywhere to go so I didn’t buy a lot of new clothing. This summer, however, was completely different. I actually got to go outside and even to a couple of events— what a concept. But I also must admit that I’ve been practically living at H&M this summer because their collection has been on point.

Check out a few of the dresses that I’ve been wearing this summer!

All white everything

Is there anything better than a flowy white summer dress? I have a few in rotation but this one from H&M with its ruffled straps and billowy silhouette makes me feel equally cute and comfy. Pair it with my white sandals and a fresh pedicure and the look is complete.

Linen love

You know when you love a piece of clothing so much, you go back and get it in multiple colours? That’s what I did with this maxi dress from Joe Fresh. I bought one in white last summer and got it in this faded blue colour when Joe Fresh launched their summer collection. The lightweight linen makes it the perfect dress for those humid summer days, which has been almost every day recently in Toronto.

Flower power

This matching crop top and skirt from H&M technically don’t fall under the category of summer dress but they’re pretty close. Matching co-ords are trending this summer this set was a great way to add a bit of variety to my collection of dresses. Did I mention how much I love this summery sunflower print. Let me count the ways.

Coming in hot (pink)!

I can’t explain why, but I love a button-up dress. The tiny buttons give this Reitmans dress a ’50s feel without being too dated. Add in the bright pink shade and slightly ruffled hem, and it’s easily one of my favourite dresses of the season.

Seeing stripes

From the bold and beautiful stripes to the flirty flutter hem, I love everything about this lemlem x H&M dress. It’s just as comfortable as a simple summer frock, but the silky material makes it look a little fancier. Finish the look with a pair of equally comfy wedge sandals and I’m ready for summer event.
