The 5 fall fashion trends I’m seeing everywhere

And I can’t wait to wear them!

It feels like fall is finally settling in and I, for one, couldn’t be happier. After spending the last couple of months running around in cotton and linen dresses, I’m more than ready to pull my collection of cozy knits and oversized trench coats out of storage. And while I’m excited to wear my tried and true fall outfits, there are a few trends I’m seeing this season that have inspired me to do a little fall fashion haul.

It’s the Wild, Wild West

From double denim and cowboy boots to fringe accents and full-on cow prints, there’s no denying fashion’s current obsession with the Old West. Cowboy-core has gained popularity in recent years and shows no sign of slowing down. Especially with so many stylish celebrities fronting the trend. Look no further than Pharrell Williams and Post Malone, who both showcased cowboy-inspired collections during fashion week, and BeyoncĂ© and Kacey Musgraves, who dropped limited-edition collections with Levi and Reformation that were equal parts country and chic.

Not So Basic Knits

Nothing says fall like the perfect knit sweater. From Guest in Residence and Ganni to Canadian brands like Kotn and Uncle Studios, there’s no shortage of classic sweaters, vests, and cardigans. But this year, I’m looking for pieces with a certain je ne sais quoi. After seeing the collections of Sea NY, JW Anderson, and Farm Rio that play with interesting silhouettes and bold patterns, it’s clear that a statement sweater should be on my fall shopping list.

Burgundy is the new black

There’s a new classic colour in town, and its name is burgundy. While this rich and moody hue has been called several names over the last year, Bordeaux, Oxblood or Cherry red if you’ve spent any time on Pinterest, burgundy has quickly cemented itself as fashion’s shade of season. If the recent runway shows of Ferragamo and Gucci are any indication, it’s clear the burgundy trend isn’t going anywhere. Personally, it’s been one of my favourite fall shades for years, especially as a lipstick and blush. Whether you choose to embrace the colour fully with a head-to-toe look or add a small pop of colour to your outfit with a belt, bag, or boot, burgundy will always be the right choice for fall.

Texture Play

One of the reasons I love fall so much is the ability to layer without restraint. From heavyweight denim and chunky knit sweaters to shiny and sleek leather pieces, my fall wardrobe is probably the most dynamic collection of fabrics and textures. And with suede leather, corduroy, and pony hair trending this fall, there is plenty of opportunity for me to play with texture. The top three pieces on my shopping list? A pair of suede boots (in chocolate brown, of course), a pair of wide-leg corduroy pants, and a pony hair purse with a fun animal print (because, why not?)!

Go sports, but make it fashion

With school officially in session, it’s the perfect time to channel your inner collegiate. Think cable knit sweater vests, embroidered cardigans, pleated skirts, and classic white button up shirts! Ralph Lauren’s Oak Bluffs collection, which sold out shortly after it launched over the summer, is a perfect example of the cool vintage prep look that is currently trending in 2025. With so many of these pieces already in my wardrobe, I’m leaning into more retro-inspired accessories (re: brooches, neckties, and leather shoulder bags) to really lean into the trend.
