Review: How I detoxed my skin with Flawless by Friday

Five days. Five sheet masks. All my skin problems solved forever?

My love for sheet masks knows no bounds and I’ve gotten into the habit of using them at least twice a week. If I’m not using a sheet mask than I’ll slather on my La Neige Sleeping Mask with abandon or apply a thick layer of Rodial’s Dragon’s Blood Hyaluronic Mask instead. Still, the idea of using five sheet masks back to back over the course of a week seemed a little excessive, even for me. And yet, the possibility of having flawless skin in a week was enough to lure me in. Oh, I also loved that Flawless By Friday is a Canadian brand. Brittny Robins founded the skincare company in 2015 and has since become steadily growing beauty brand.

Flawless in five days

Each mask in the Flawless by Friday 5 Day System uses a different key ingredient, from hyaluronic acid and green tea to coffee and honey, and targets a different skin concern like brightness, tone and hydration. The Flawless by Friday sheet masks is the perfect fusion of natural ingredients and high tech hydrogel sheet mask material. Together, the five sheet masks create a simple and speedy way to improve the overall look and feel of your skin.

The directions are simple: use a sheet mask once a day for fifteen minutes and prepare to be amazed. I decided to document my detox over the course of the week on Instagram and share my thoughts in a full blog post. The question is did I like it or love it?

It’s Hydration Monday!

I’m a huge fan of hyaluronic acid and if you haven’t learned of its magical powers, please read up on this powerhouse ingredient. It’s like the Marvel superhero of hydration and I was pleasantly surprised to see it as the main ingredient in Monday’s sheet mask. This was also the first time I got to see the physical hydrogel mask and I discovered that it comes in two separate pieces.

They were easy to unwrap and while the masks were soaked in the hyaluronic acid serum, the masks weren’t overly wet. I’ve tried sheet masks like that and spent most of my time cleaning up the serum as it dripped down my neck. Annoying. But, this mask was great. After the fifteen minutes, I noticed a bit of excess serum on my skin but just pressed it into my skin with my fingertips. My skin felt great and I had a bit of a post-mask glow. In my books, that’s a win.

Tone it up Tuesdays

If hyaluronic acid is the powerhouse of hydration, vitamin c is the king of brightening and tightening the skin. I’m a fan of The Body Shop’s Vitamin C line but, I’m always interested in finding new vitamin c-rich skincare products. This mask definitely lived up to my expectations. My skin felt so soft and the skin around my eyes, which is noticeably darker, appeared brighter after I used the mask. Also, I got this amazing glow afterward.

By this point in the week I decided to forgo makeup for the rest of the week. It wasn’t because I needed to. As long as I was vigilant about cleaning my skin every night, makeup wouldn’t have a huge effect on my skin. But, my ultimate goal is to get my skin in such a good place that I don’t feel the need to use a lot of makeup. I wanted to see my skin in its natural state throughout the week to see how well these masks were working or not working for me. After using the vitamin c mask, I wanted to see if other people would notice a difference in my skin as well. Really, this was a little skincare experiment I set for myself.

On Wednesdays we unwrinkle

Hump day signaled the halfway point in my skincare challenge. I basically wore brow gel and lip gloss during the day and then came home to try out the Green Tea Facial Mask. I should probably confess that I don’t drink tea, like at all, so the idea of applying green tea to my face was a little jarring. I know green tea is packed with antioxidants and is basically why some people can live until their 100. This mask is supposed to help protect the from pollution and slow down signs aging. Basically, it helps bulk up the skin’s barrier to keep all the bad stuff in the environment from entering our skin and in turn keeps us looking fresh and youthful longer.

I will say that the overall tone of my skin improved. My complexion looked more even and noticeably smoother. I also loved that the mask smelled like green tea. It was lovely. I wouldn’t say that my fine lines and wrinkles faded right away. I would probably have to try out this particular mask a couple more times to see if there were improvements. But, I definitely enjoyed using this mask.

Keep it tight Thursdays

I should probably start with a second confession and say that I don’t drink coffee. I’m just not a fan of it. But, I love using coffee grinds and coffee-based scrubs on my body and face. Caffeine is another antioxidant and also helps tighten the skin. So, I was excited to use this caffeine-theme sheet mask and get my skin looking plumped and youthful. I like the scent and benefits of coffee but I’d rather not drink it.

I thought this mask would have a slight coffee scent but it didn’t smell like anything. And, after wearing it for the the designated fifteen minutes, I didn’t really notice any difference. I concluded that I should probably use this mask a few more times to see if there was a noticeable improvement but after one use, I got nothing. I’m also thinking that maybe plumpness isn’t really an issue for me so I wouldn’t really notice a different right away.

Finally, I’m flawless by Friday

Using the last sheet mask was bittersweet. I’ve never tried using sheet masks everyday for a full week but it’s definitely something I could get used to. The Honey Facial Mask is like the final step to this detox challenge. Fun fact: honey is one of the few household ingredients that don’t expire. Like, ever. It’s a great antibacterial ingredient and it also helps hydrate the skin. In other words, bless the bumble bees and all that they’ve given us. This mask smelled incredible and my skin felt so soft afterward. It was the perfect way to end the week and I would definitely use it again.

Conclusion: This skin detox is complete!

I think this five day mask system is impressive. After looking through pictures I took over the week I can definitely see the improvements in my skin. The biggest difference I saw in my skin was the overall brightness of my skin. My skin has this great glow and looks soft, smooth and even. My dark circles and dark spots around my mouth were noticeably lighter and I wasn’t the only one who noticed.

I had a couple people point out how great my skin looked and asked me what makeup I was using. It felt great to say I wasn’t wearing any and I had just been sticking to a strict skincare regimen. I’m happy I used this mask now after such a harsh winter. My skin definitely need a little TLC and now I’m ready to welcome in spring with my Flawless by Friday glow!
