Read my lips: these are my favourite balms, glosses, and treatments

My lip gloss is poppin’!

If there is one beauty product I keep in my purse at all times, it’s a lip product. Or rather, several lip products. I can’t leave my house without one, and I think my growing collection of lip balms and glosses is a testament to my obsession. I couldn’t tell you the last time I wore or bought a tube of lipstick, but I’ve definitely replaced several tubes of lip gloss in the last few months.

But, I don’t think I’m the only one that’s been choosing lip gloss over lipstick lately. A lot of fashion and beauty trends from the ’90s are super popular right now, including the ultra-shiny lip. Back in 2016, Glossier launched it’s iconic lip gloss, and since then a lot of beauty brands like La Neige, Fenty Beauty, and Milk Makeup have also released a new lip balm or lip gloss product. These are a few of my favourites:

Biossance is everything

There are so many products by this green beauty brand that I absolutely adore, and their vegan lip balm is one of them. The first thing I noticed were the ingredients that were and were not included in this balm. It doesn’t have beeswax, which is really common in a lip balm, but it does have hyaluronic acid in it to help your skin retain moisture. I think the absence of beeswax really changes the texture and finish of the lip balm. It still feels really smooth on my lips, but I think it has more of a glossy finish. Lucky for me, I love lip gloss, but I definitely have to reapply more often than a traditional balm. Lastly, I really liked was that it has the faint scent of roses. It’s a nice change from a lot of the other lip products I have that smell like vanilla or coconut.

The Fenty Beauty lip duo

For the longest time, I was wearing Fenty’s Gloss Bomb every single day. I even wrote about it during one of my monthly beauty roundups last year. But, last summer, I tried the Pro Kiss’r Luscious Lip Balm, and I loved it so much that I never went back to the lip gloss. I usually prefer gloss over balm, but this one is so hydrating. And it has a glossy finish, so I like using it more than a traditional lip gloss. It smells incredible and is packed with shea and mango butter to moisturize my lips. I currently have two that I’m using, but I’ll definitely need to restock soon.

The lip scrub is a product I didn’t think I needed in my life. My lips are usually pretty smooth and I use a nightly lip treatment to keep them from peeling. But, I also have a bad habit of biting my lips and picking at the skin. So, every now and then I need to exfoliate my lips. The Pro Kiss’r Lip-Loving Scrubstick is great because it’s so gentle. The apricot seeds help buff away the dead skin, but doesn’t feel rough against my lips. I also love that it comes in a stick that I can apply like a lipstick. It’s way less messy than a product that comes in a pot. I use it about once a week and I’m nowhere near close to finishing it.

Got milk?

I haven’t tried many products by Milk Makeup, but whenever I do, I end up loving them. The Hydro Grip primer is the last thing I’ve tried, and it’s one of my go-to primers. Now I can add the Kush Lip Glaze to my list of lip products to keep in my bag at all times. I think calling it a lip glaze instead of a lip balm or lip gloss is interesting but also accurate. It has a thicker consistency than a lip gloss, but isn’t quite a balm. Still, it’s very moisturizing, thanks to the hydrating ingredients like cannabis seed oil and jojoba oil.  I also like the metal applicator. It always feels really cool against my lips and it just looks really fancy. I’m still using my first tube, because a little goes a long way.

Are you jelly?

Tower 28 Beauty launched at Sephora last year and I’ve been dying to try out their products. The packaging is adorable and the entire line has the green beauty stamp of approval from Sephora, which is always a win in my books. After viewing the small collection, I obviously I gravitated toward the ShineOn Jelly Lip Gloss. But I’ve also add a facial spray and highlighter to my wishlist. The lip gloss has as much shine as the Glossier lip gloss, but isn’t as thick. It also comes in a bunch of beautiful sheer colours like pink, red, orange, and berry.  They all look very subtle, so I wouldn’t mind wearing them as an everyday lip product. But, the clear finish is definitely my favourite.

What lip products are you using right now? Are you tempted to try any of the products I talked about? Tell me in the comments!
